Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has struck a Russian "shadow fleet" tanker in the neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea for the first time, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing intelligence sources.

According to the sources, this was an "unprecedented special operation" conducted more than 2,000 kilometers from Ukrainian territory. Following a multi-stage operation in neutral waters, sources claim the tanker "QENDIL" was hit by aerial drones.

The vessel reportedly sustained "critical damage" in the attack and is currently "unfit for its intended purpose," the sources noted.

The term "shadow fleet" typically refers to a network of tankers used to transport Russian oil while bypassing Western sanctions and increased regulatory scrutiny.

As of the time of publication, no official public details regarding the operation have been released.
