Long-range SBU drones halted operations at an oil production platform in the Caspian Sea.

As reported by Hvylya, citing 24 Kanal, which references its own sources within the SBU.

The attack was carried out by the SBU's "Alpha" Special Operations Center. The target was the Filanovsky field platform, operated by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft. This marks the first such strike against Russian oil infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.

According to the sources, at least four strikes hit the offshore platform. The attack resulted in the suspension of oil and gas production from the more than 20 wells it services.

"The SBU continues successful special operations against the Russian oil and gas sector, constantly expanding their geographic scope. The 'pop' in the Caspian Sea is another reminder to the Russian Federation that all of its enterprises working for the war are legitimate targets, no matter where they are located," an informed SBU source said.

Background

The Filanovsky field is one of the largest discovered in Russia and in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. Its reserves amount to 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The energy resources were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

It should be noted that on the night of December 11, drones also struck two strategically significant targets on Russian territory.

According to open-source analysts, UAVs attacked a thermal power plant in the Dorogobuzh district of the Smolensk region. This TPP supplies electricity to several defense-industrial complex factories.

Simultaneously, drones struck the Acron chemical production facility in Veliky Novgorod—one of the country's leading chemical enterprises. Some of the products manufactured there can be used as a component in explosive manufacturing.

The drone attack also created problems for aviation: a plane carrying Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was unable to land immediately in the capital. The aircraft spent about an hour airborne over the Tver region before being diverted to Pulkovo Airport.
