Ukraine has handed over its response to the Donald Trump administration regarding the latest draft of the American peace plan to end the war with Russia.
Axios and Bloomberg reported the development, citing Ukrainian and US officials.
According to Bloomberg, the document was sent on Wednesday, December 10, while the US President held separate talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The agency notes that a week of negotiations has produced a document that is more acceptable to Kyiv, though several contentious issues — particularly regarding territory and security guarantees — continue to hinder a final agreement.
The same day, Trump stated that European leaders want to hold a meeting over the weekend with Zelenskyy and US representatives. "They would like us to go to a meeting on the weekend in Europe, and we will make a decision based on what they give us. We don't want to waste time," the US President said.
Trump also declared that Zelenskyy "has to be a realist" and questioned when elections would be held in Ukraine. He claimed that "82% of Ukrainians are demanding a deal be made." The President did not cite a source for these figures.
The current 20-point document is the result of protracted negotiations. On December 8, following the London summit, Zelenskyy announced that the US peace plan had been cut from 28 to 20 points — noting that "frankly non-pro-Ukrainian points have been dropped." However, the President noted that his vision for ending the war differs from Trump's approach, and a compromise on territories has not yet been reached.
According to the Financial Times, the Trump administration gave Zelenskyy only a few days to respond to the peace plan. During the talks, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner reportedly pressed the Ukrainian side for a quick decision. Meanwhile, according to CNN, European diplomats and some US officials are concerned that Trump could walk away from negotiations due to the slow progress.
Earlier that day, Zelenskyy announced on social media that Ukraine is finalizing the 20-point document and expects "news for all of us and for the end of the bloodshed." A meeting of the Coalition of the Willing regarding future security guarantees is scheduled for tomorrow.
