Defense Intelligence has outplayed Russian special services — RDK Commander Denis Kapustin is alive.
As "Hvylya" reports, this was revealed during a briefing by the commander of the "Timur" special unit to the head of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR), Kyrylo Budanov.
Ukrainian military intelligence thwarted a high-profile assassination attempt on Denis Kapustin (White Rex), commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). Russian special services had allocated half a million dollars for his liquidation.
The intelligence operation lasted over a month. During this time, operatives not only saved the life of the RDK commander—whom Russian dictator Vladimir Putin considers a personal enemy—but also exposed the entire network of clients and perpetrators within Russian special services. Crucially, the funds intended for the "murder" were intercepted by Ukraine and will be used to strengthen special units.
"We also secured the corresponding funds allocated by Russian special services for the execution of this crime. At this moment, the RDK commander is in Ukraine and preparing to continue executing his assigned tasks," Timur reported.
Intelligence Chief Kyrylo Budanov personally congratulated Kapustin, who joined the meeting via video link, on the successful conclusion of the sting operation.
"First of all, Mr. Denis, I congratulate you on your 'return to life.' That is always pleasant. I am glad the funds received for the order of your liquidation have gone to aid our struggle. I wish us all, and you personally, success," the Lieutenant General noted.
Denis Kapustin confirmed that his temporary absence was a necessary element of the operation and did not affect the unit's combat readiness. He announced his readiness to deploy immediately to the combat zone.
Earlier reports stated that on the night of December 27, in the Zaporizhzhia sector, while performing a combat mission, Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) commander Denis Kapustin, widely known by the call sign White Rex, had allegedly been killed.
