On the night of January 15, Russian forces once again attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Strikes on energy facilities have left consumers in the Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions without power. Emergency restoration work is underway wherever the security situation permits.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy and NPC Ukrenergo.
The most critical situation is currently in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Grid restrictions are in place across the capital region, meaning previously established hourly outage schedules are temporarily suspended. A return to predictable schedules will occur once the power system stabilizes. Restoration efforts in the capital and the Kyiv region are continuing around the clock, despite difficult weather conditions.
Grid restrictions also remain in the Odesa region, as in previous weeks. Emergency repairs following earlier attacks are ongoing in the area.
Due to severe weather, 7 settlements in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions are fully or partially without power. Repair crews are working to restore damaged lines.
In most of Ukraine's regions, hourly outage schedules are in effect for all consumer categories, along with capacity limitation schedules for industrial users. Emergency shutdowns have been forced in several regions due to equipment overload caused by high consumption levels during the current cold snap.
Electricity consumption is consistent with seasonal norms. As of 9:30 a.m., consumption was 4.5% lower than at the same time the previous day. This decrease is attributed to the forced implementation of stricter restrictions in certain regions. The daily peak on January 14 was 3.2% higher than on January 13, due to a lower number of disconnected consumers at that time.
The Ministry of Energy urges citizens to use electricity rationally throughout the day, especially during morning and evening peak hours. Whenever possible, energy-intensive tasks should be moved to nighttime hours—after 11:00 p.m.
