German Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered a harsh speech at the CSU congress in Munich, stating that the country needs deep modernization and recovery.
As reported by Hvylya, this is according to Bild.
"We will probably only understand the full extent of what we are experiencing in the world many years from now. These are not ebbs and flows of good relations. This is almost a tectonic shift in the political and economic centers of power in the world, and we Germans, we Europeans, are at the very center of this process," Merz set an alarming tone.
At the same time, the chancellor's main thesis was that "Germany needs to be renewed from scratch." He placed special emphasis on foreign policy.
"We have been falling behind for more than ten years. The decades of Pax Americana are over for us. Nostalgia won't help. That's a fact! The Americans are now very insistently defending their interests. And therefore we must now defend ours as well," said the German chancellor.
In addition to this, Merz in his speech promised a change of course in the country's development.
"The era of ideology is over. We're showing what we're capable of. What we saw from the Greens is finished. We're opening the windows: we're ensuring that those who invent something don't leave for America, but can achieve something here for their lives. People of my generation have solid ground under their feet: this is the legacy of an open, free society. I am firmly convinced that we will be able to pass this legacy on to the next generation," he added.
