Ukraine's accession to the European Union `, a timeline reportedly discussed within the framework of negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war, would be "extremely difficult" to achieve.
According to Hvylya, this was reported by Reuters, citing a European diplomat. The diplomat noted that it is currently unclear whether the EU leadership supports this timeframe.
"Ukraine's European perspective is clear, and it is a realistic perspective. It is what we are striving for, and Europeans and Ukrainians must agree on how to proceed," a French official told the agency.
Several other European officials and diplomats told the agency that the 2027 date is "absolutely impossible."
However, some media outlets yesterday, including the Financial Times, reported that this date is stipulated in the United States' "peace proposal." This was confirmed by Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement. According to Kos, Ukraine and the EU have now moved on to the technical process without the risk of a veto from Hungary—the main opponent of Kyiv's membership in the bloc.
Nevertheless, a number of other sources, such as contacts of Radio Svoboda within the EU, expressed doubts that this is achievable.
It is worth noting that a 2030 accession date had been discussed previously.
