Ukrainians have been told the worst-case scenario for power outages.
As reported by "Hvylya", this was announced by Ukrenergo Board Chairman Vitaliy Zaichenko during the United News Marathon broadcast.
According to him, the goal of the Russian aggressor is to completely de-energize Ukraine's power system, leaving Ukrainians without electricity, water and heat.
The country's chief energy official answered the host's question about the worst-case scenario, stating that without electricity, all the usual benefits of civilization disappear.
"But we are prepared, we have engineering protection at our facilities, we have air defense. And there are preventive actions by personnel to maintain the stability of the energy system, and then restore power to consumers - who, unfortunately, are disconnected as a result of enemy attacks," Zaichenko said.
According to him, energy workers are now doing everything possible to eliminate infrastructure damage, which is why electricity supply schedules have become more lenient by the end of the week.
"Repair crews are working virtually around the clock, immediately after the end of air raid alerts and identification of damage. That's exactly why there's an opportunity to supply more consumers, and it's increasing every day," the energy official explained.
European partners have provided Ukraine with equipment that accelerates system restoration. If shelling stops, energy supply schedules could be gradually eliminated.
"If there are no more strikes on the energy system, energy workers will cope with their task quite quickly. But conditions, unfortunately, are not ideal - we're working with what we have," noted the Ukrenergo Board Chairman.
At the same time, the situation remains difficult in frontline and border regions - Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts. Security there is the worst, which complicates the work of repair crews.
It was previously reported that voltage fluctuations could last for several years.
