Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Ukraine is not losing the war against Russia, highlighting that Defense Forces have liberated hundreds of square kilometers during a new counteroffensive. He also expressed his conviction that European troops should be stationed directly on the front line following any ceasefire.
As reported by Hvylya, citing an exclusive AFP interview with the Ukrainian leader, the President remained defiant regarding the conflict's trajectory.
"It cannot be said that we are losing the war. Honestly speaking, we are definitely not losing it, definitely. The question is whether we will win," Zelensky emphasized.
The President noted that Ukrainian troops are advancing on the southern front. According to him, defenders have managed to de-occupy significant territory.
"I will not go into too much detail, but today I can primarily congratulate our army – all defense forces – because as of today, 300 square kilometers have been liberated," the Head of State announced.
Zelensky acknowledged that Kyiv is currently under immense pressure. Specifically, both Washington and Moscow are demanding the surrender of the Donbas to end the war.
"Both Americans and Russians say: if you want the war to end tomorrow, get out of the Donbas," the President revealed.
Separately, Zelensky touched upon the topic of elections, which the US and the Russian Federation are demanding as part of a peace agreement. He believes the Kremlin insists on a quick vote with a single goal.
"Let's be honest – the Russians just want to replace me," he stated, adding that no one desires elections during wartime due to their destructive effect.
Regarding future security guarantees, Zelensky expressed a clear position on the European contingent planned for deployment in Ukraine in the event of a cessation of hostilities.
"We would like to see the contingent closer to the front line. Of course, no one wants to stand on the first line, and naturally, Ukrainians would like our partners to stand with us on the first line," the President concluded.
