Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of the US President, have provided updates on the progress of talks concerning a "peace plan" between the Ukrainian and American sides.
The news was reported by Hvylya, citing posts on their respective social media pages.
According to Umerov, Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, met with him and General Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), over the course of two days.
The meeting was focused on advancing a "realistic and actionable path to achieving a lasting and just peace in Ukraine."
During the session, Umerov reaffirmed that Ukraine's priority is a settlement that guarantees the protection of its independence and state sovereignty, ensures the security of Ukrainians, and establishes a stable foundation for a successful democratic future.
The participants also discussed the results of the recent meeting between the American side and Russia, as well as steps that could lead to an end to the war.
Additionally, the American and Ukrainian parties agreed on a framework for security arrangements and discussed the necessary deterrence measures to ensure a sustainable peace.
Both sides also stressed that genuine progress toward any agreement depends on Russia's willingness to demonstrate a real commitment to long-term peace—"in particular, to take steps toward de-escalation and ending the killing."
Among other matters, they specifically reviewed the "Future Development Program," which is intended to guide Ukraine's post-war recovery process, joint US-Ukrainian economic initiatives, and long-term reconstruction projects.
The parties noted that ending the war and taking concrete steps toward a ceasefire and de-escalation are essential to prevent further aggression and to ensure the implementation of a comprehensive Ukrainian recovery plan aimed at making the state stronger and more prosperous than before the war.
In connection with this, the parties are scheduled to meet again on Saturday, December 6, to continue negotiations.
