Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that his country's contribution to the NATO countries' PURL initiative for purchasing American weapons for Ukraine will amount to $100 million.
This is reported by Polsat News.
According to Sikorski, Poland together with Germany and Norway supported Ukraine within the PURL program, which takes into account Kyiv's most priority needs. In total, the three countries allocated $500 million, of which the Polish contribution is $100 million.
"One million dollars for every centimeter of Polish track blown up by Russian saboteurs," the minister commented, recalling the recent sabotage involving the destruction of railway tracks.
The funds will go towards purchasing Patriot missiles to protect Ukrainian cities and power plants. Sikorski clarified that these are not additional funds, but money that Warsaw planned to direct to the European Peace Facility, currently blocked by Hungary.
"So that this money would not be wasted, but would work to deter Putin, it was redirected to American weapons for Ukraine," he explained.
At the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels on December 3, Sikorski also stated that the EU's decision on stable financing for Ukraine for 2026-27 could prove decisive for the course of the war – and prompt Putin to conclude a peace agreement.
Regarding frozen Russian assets, the minister supported Belgium's position on risk distribution and the need for a support mechanism, but noted: "The devil is in the details."
Sikorski called for convincing Belgium's prime minister that peace negotiations do not reduce the need for a decision on Russian assets – on the contrary, they make it even more necessary.
"Only when Putin sees that Ukraine has financial support for two to three years will he reconsider his conditions, limit his ambitions and become more inclined to conclude a peace agreement," Sikorski concluded.
